Preparing Monographs for BindingCreating a Monograph LotEarlier, we created a |
Lot for |
Periodicals. Now let's create a |
Monograph Lot. There's no difference between a |
Periodical Lot and a |
Monograph Lot so we'll repeat the same steps we used to create our |
Periodical Lot. Keeping our |
Lot-naming scheme in mind, this time our lot name will end with M. Monograph FormatsAdding a |
Monograph to a |
Lot is similar to adding a |
Periodical, but instead of retrieving titles from our database, we use Formats. While we're not retrieving titles from the database, we must leave the Key set to one of |
theTitle Keys. Formats are simply templates that contain basic formatting information, but they don't contain any stampable text. We can use any of |
the standard formats depending on the style of the volume we are binding. The standard formats available in ABLE are listed below: |
Format ID Used for… |
A AUTHOR Demonstration: Using a Monograph Format |
We will use the format |
TA1M for ALL monographs to format a Title |
\Author\Call Number item even if the book does not have an author listed. If Aleph does not have an author listed, the Author slot will be left blank. A Few Points to Keep in Mind• |
Z-link parses the title automatically using backslashes between words |
so |
they will stamp on separate lines. Z-link also parses the call number with backslashes to indicate separate lines for stamping on the spine. If the title or call number does not parse correctly, you may need to edit the item before you add it to the Lot. If you would like blank lines between words, enter multiple backslashes. (See separate document on using Z-Link.) |
And so on… |
. The default for the call number slot level is 7. |

Making corrections on ABLE and Reprinting Tickets:
When you are revising and need to make corrections on items, always click on Upd Item (Update Item) after a correction is made. NEVER click on Add item because it will duplicate the item on the LOT. Once the item is updated, you will need to reprint the ticket: To reprint a ticket, click on Print, click on Reprint Binding Slip, then choose the appropriate printer and print the new ticket. NOTE: The newer version of ABLE will not allow a Snipit of the drop down menu, but the above instructions are self-explanatory.
