New Materials for the LSC

New materials may be sent to the LSC from Collections Services Departments as part of workflows approved by the Associate University Librarian for Collections Services and the Head of Collection Strategy and Development. Depending on the workflow, materials may be physically processed at different points in the lifecycle.

New materials for the should be processed as follows:

  • Item must be in the Acquisition technical services process type (aka the CS work order) with a process status that appropriately tracks its point in the lifecycle

  • LSC locations are assigned in Alma up-front at the point of processing instead of as part of the LSC accessioning process. Assign library and location information as follows:

    • Library Service Center: PSK (PSK) in item record; $b LSC $c PSK in holdings record – Items that would otherwise be sent to Perkins/Bostock

    • Library Service Center: PSD (PSD) in item record; $b LSC $c PSD in holdings record – Items that would otherwise be sent to the Divinity School Library

    • Library Service Center: PSKE (PSKE) in item record; $b LSC $c PSKE in holdings record – Items that would otherwise be sent to the East Asian Collection

    • Library Service Center: PSL (PSL) in item record; $b LSC $c PSL in holdings record – Items that would otherwise be sent to Lilly Library

    • Library Service Center: PSM (PSM) in item record; $b LSC $c PSM in holdings record – Items that would otherwise be sent to the Music Library

  • Apply an "LSC" sticker and a property stamp in the same place one would apply a spine label and a property stamp, per the “Label, stamp, target” section Basic Monograph Shelf Preparation guidelines. In Bay 10, a property stamp and ink pad can be found in the cubicle across from Jessica. Items routed to LSC do not require targets/security strips

  • Place item on book truck near the mail room for transport to LSC. When the truck fills up, the items will be marked done in the CS work order and be in transit to LSC; once ingested into Caiasfost, the transit status will clear

If an item needs repair or treatment, place it on the Conservation Review shelf in Bay 10. In addition to the LSC sticker, please insert a green “New to LSC" flag in the book so that Conservation can route the material to LSC approporiately.  LSC flags are available with the supply of flags near staff mailboxes. LSC labels are available in the shelf prep supply cabinet in Bay 10
