PKEPBound cuttered periodical volumes (principally coded by bindery staff)

New volumes of a pre-existing EAC cuttered bound periodical gets the cutter number in the holding record 852 field and are added to the PKEP holding location.

Example of a cuttered bound periodical: bib#005959740

Title: Kan dian ying

The 1st indicator in 852 is “5” for cuttered periodical number. PKEP holding.

As the PKEP location is only set up to shelve cuttered periodicals, all new periodicals that have been assigned LC call numbers would be set to the PKE holding location by bindery, in order for all LC classified materials in the EAC collection to be shelved together.

Example of a serial with an LC call number: Bib#6589283

Title “Yi Hyo-sŏk Munhaksang susang chakp'umjip.”

The 1st indicator in 852 is “0” for LC number. PKE holding.

CJK language periodicals/serials sent to the LSC

Currently Received  CJK Periodicals and Serials subscriptions:

Decisions on sending CJK language serials/periodicals to the LSC will be determined by the EAC librarians in-house. Collections Services staff will not set up any currently received EAC serials/periodicals to go straight to the LSC upon receipt unless asked to do so by EAC libarians via Mono Acq language specialists. To be clear, even if the EAC librarians have sent earlier volumes of a serial/periodical to the LSC, currently received volumes/issues of these titles should still be sent to the EAC.

CJK periodicals and serials either received as gift issues (not an active subscription gift) or purchased as backlogs:

The Mono Acq language specialist will follow the directive of the selecting CJK librarian. If the CJK librarian wants it sent straight to the LSC, the specialist will insert a ‘New for LSC’ flag and the catalogers will act accordingly. If the CJK librarian wants it sent to PKE stacks, we will do that. In either case, no PKEPI holding record for the material will be created as it will not be currently received.
