Tips for understanding OAI-PMH behavior
Looking up a record in OAI-PMH

When you first click the link, you’ll get an error. Then, up in the browser window, you can ctrl-select the term INSERTMMSID and then copy-paste in the MMS ID you want to look up, and hit enter. That will execute the record query and you can see what is coming back.
Suppressed records will continue to publish to OAI-PMH
Records that are suppressed from discovery will still publish in OAI-PMH because they are part of the source set, and may at some point return to discovery so we don’t want to pull them out of the set.
When they publish, you’ll see the suppressed information in the leader:
<leader>-----dam-a--------a-----</leader>
The character in the 05 space - 'd' - indicates the record is deleted, which for our purposes is a signal that it has been suppressed.
The pipeline uses the leader indicator to pull the record out before it is sent to Books & Media.
