How are permissions enforced?
By default, the organization permission default values are enforced via recommendation. This means that values entered or selected for these fields by Organization members become the initial default values for these fields when new media are submitted. Media contributors are recommended to use these values, and in fact they are warned not to change them unless specific extenuating circumstances exist. The current permissions enforcement mode is indicated at the bottom of the form on the right, in the Permissions enforcement mode field. It is also possible to have permissions enforced via requirement, which means that media contributors are forced to comply with organization permission defaults and cannot change these values. Only site admins can change the permissions enforcement mode. Organizations should contact us at morphosource@duke.edu to request permissions enforcement mode be switched to require compliance if this is required. Typically, in order to make this change, it is helpful if the organization has a pre-existing data use/reuse policy in place that most future contributors will have already agreed to before contributing media, and that this data policy requires the contributor to comply with organization preferences regarding use and reuse.
