Initial Model Rotation
3D models are created by a variety of different applications, and some of these have different expectations regarding how models are oriented in space. As a result, when uploading media to MorphoSource, at times the preview on the media page is upside-down, or backwards, or at an awkward angle. If you are a media contributor and you have edit access to a media with the mesh media type, you can customize the initial model rotation for your preview. Here are instructions on how to do so:
Head to the edit page for your media and navigate to the preview tab.
All of your modifications will first be completed in the viewer on the right side of the page. To make it easier to work with the viewer, you will probably want to enter full-screen mode by clicking the button in the bottom right.
Open the left-hand tools menu, and in the initial scene tab, toggle open rotation controls.
You can customize the rotation either with the colored handled in the main 3D view or using the X, Y, and Z rotation fields on the left-hand tools menu. Pro-tip: If you click the X, Y, and Z fields you can use your mouse scroll wheel to smoothly rotate along a single axis.
When you’re finished with all of this and you’re satisfied with the initial rotation, exit viewer full-screen mode. Click the button on the left to export viewer scene settings. You should see the rotation values change to reflect how you have set up your scene.
Save the media.
When the media has saved and you are returned to the media page, your model should be rotated how you have set it. It will appear this way for all users viewing the media.
Troubleshooting
When I save my media with initial rotation, the page loads in with the old rotation, and my updates aren’t shown.
First off, ensure you successfully exported viewer scene settings by clicking the button and checking that rotation values changed. Beyond that, sometimes browsers will cache the scene setup. Try to hard refresh or clear your cache for the new scene setup to appear.
