When the person has a paid position with the libraries

Some internships are paid positions funded by endowments or other parts of the library budget.

In those cases, the person becomes a paid part or full-time library employee for the duration of their role with the Libraries.

They should added in Alma automatically as long as they are appointed as a part or full-time staff member.

Once they are in Alma, the person’s supervisor can submit a request to add Alma access for them with appropriate roles. See Requesting Alma access and roles for new and continuing library staff

When the person does not have a paid position with the libraries

When the person does not have a paid position with the libraries, but still needs Alma access, they must be sponsored for a netid and Duke email, and then for library access.

Step 1: Sponsor the person for a netid and email address. DUL staff should work with Library HR on that process.

Step 2: Once the person has their netid, the sponsor should request Library physical borrowing for them (as well as electronic resources if desired.) See https://library.duke.edu/using/sponsoring-library-access

Step 3: Request Alma access for the person with appropriate roles. See Requesting Alma access and roles for new and continuing library staff
