Captioning Live Presentations and Videos

...

ToolInstructions
Zoom
(must be recorded to the cloud)

Note: if you are using both the audio transcript and live transcript options in Zoom, you may get two separate caption files. They're not identical, so you could review each to see which is a better starting point.

Panopto
YouTube
  • Upload YouTube videos (YouTube should autogenerate captions as part of the video processing, if it's possible.)
  • Edit or remove captions (From the edit interface, you can click on the "three dots" menu to download the subtitles.
Warpwire
  • Upload to Media Library (Warpwire may autogenerate captions for uploaded videos?)
  • Video Playback (Clicking on the gear icon when in playback mode should show a download option for captions)
Adobe Premiere Pro
(requires Adobe Creative Cloud license)

Microsoft Word (Office 365)

creates a nicely formatted transcript, rather than timed captions

  • Download or create audio file of the recording
  • Log into Office 365
  • Click on the Word icon to open the Word application
  • Create a new document
  • In the toolbar, you should see a microphone icon
  • Click on the arrow next to the microphone to expand the submenu, then select "Transcribe"
  • A new sidebar will open that prompts you to upload a recording and select the language
