Before the training/configuration session, please complete the following steps to ensure that all permissions/accounts/credentials are working properly. If any of these fail, it may mean that not everything was set up completely on the backend, so please contact Steven Lippmann if any of these steps do not work for you.
Most users will need access to data housed in our ORACLE server. If so, you should have already received a temporary Oracle password, either by email or phone, from the DHTS Database team. If you haven’t received it yet, please contact Steven Lippmann (steven.lippmann@duke.edu).
Temporary Oracle passwords expire after 7 days. If you find that yours is expired, please call the Duke DHTS Service desk at 919-684-2243 and tell them you “need to have your password reset for the phsdbp01 Oracle database.” Using this exact wording will help them assign the ticket to the correct database team.
1) Log in to PACE Go to secure.citrix.duke.edu in a browser. Enter your Duke NetID credentials and multi-factor authentication (You will need your phone for this) Go to “Desktops” and then open the “FISMA - DPHS” or “FISMA - SENTINEL” machine.

2) Check network drives on PACE machine Open Windows Explorer > This PC You should see these 4 network drives:

3) Mobaxterm Open MobaXterm  Establish a new SSH session: Menu bar “Sessions” > “New Session” Enter the following: Remote host: plp-phsp01 Check “Specify username” box Enter your Duke NetID
Click on “Advanced SSH settings” and change the “SSH-browser type” to “SCP (enhanced speed)”
Click “OK” to apply these settings and open a terminal session. You may get a prompt for a password. Use your main Duke NetID password. |
4) SAS Studio Open browser and type in “https://plp-phsp01.dhe.duke.edu:8343/SASStudio/” and log in with your Duke NetID and password. The program should launch to your home directory. If this fails, try a different browser (Firefox, Chrome, Edge). If you get an error message when logging in, please contact Steven Lippmann. |
5) SQL Plus for changing Oracle password (skip if not using Oracle data assets) Open Windows Start Menu and locate “Oracle - OraClient12Home1” in the Programs list. Expand the folder and click on “SQL Plus”.
At the prompt, enter your user name as: netid@phsdbp01
At the next prompt, enter your temporary Oracle password. Note that this is a different from your regular Duke NetID password. Your temporary Oracle password would have be emailed by the DHTS database group (usually from Saritha Jandla, Beatrice Bih, or Lawrence Shang) Note: SQL Plus will not show your keystrokes as you enter your password.  Once you are successfully connected, type the word “password” at the SQL> prompt. Enter your temporary Oracle password as the “old” password. Then enter the password you would like to use as your “new” password.

6) DBVisualizer (Skip if you will not be using data in our ORACLE server.) If you don’t find the icon on the desktop, locate and expand the DBVisualizer program folder in the Windows Start > Programs list. You’ll need to establish the database connection for Oracle server PHSDBP01 where the Medicare data are stored. Open DBVisualizer and go to “Database” -> “Create New Database Connection” -> Choose “No” for the Connection Wizard prompt. Enter the following information: Oracle Oracle Thin Service 1532 Under Authentication, enter your Duke NetID and your ORACLE password that you set up in step 5 above. This is different from your main Duke NetID password.
