Policy statement

The Duke Authors Display is a featured shelving area on the first floor of Perkins Library. Recently published books by authors affiliated with Duke University are shelved here for at least one year after publication, and then are incorporated into the general collection. Duke Authors books follow the same loan policies as the New & Noteworthy collection, four-week loans for all patron types with a maximum of two renewals.

  • “Duke Authors” are current faculty, students, or staff of Duke University.
  • Works by emeritus and retired faculty are included. Works by alumni and former Duke faculty/staff who now work elsewhere are not included, unless the research and writing was conducted substantially during their time at Duke; these works may be selected for other library collections.

Works by authors affiliated with Divinity School, Fuqua School of Business, School of Law, School of Medicine, and School of Nursing and are generally included but may be omitted by discretion of librarians. Works by authors affiliated with interdisciplinary and non-departmental institutes, centers, or programs are generally included. Works by authors affiliated with Duke Kunshan University are not included, unless they are also affiliated directly with Duke University.
