MAC - SAP Remote Access

SAP (budget system) is not installed on Mac laptops and computers due to compatibility issues, as such, Mac users who need to access SAP must do so through a Windows computer.  OIT maintains a set of remote or virtual desktop systems that can provide this access – essentially the Mac computer acts as a "dumb terminal" to access the computational power and software installed on a remote server.

OIT's instructions for access appear here:

  • https://duke.service-now.com/nav_to.do?uri=%2Fkb_view.do%3Fsysparm_article%3DKB0026883    (NetID required for access)
  • These instructions will walk you through the entire process, complete with screen-shots and highlights calling out specific fields/checkboxes/etc. that you need to fill out.
  • Note also that you must be connected to the Duke VPN to connect to the server
  • For quick reference, the remote server is remoteapps.oit.duke.edu  (the link above will show you how to create a "workspace" that is remembered on your computer)

And they use the Microsoft Remote Desktop application to connect to the remote server:

Once logged into the remote system, you will see the "MIT Kerberos Login" and "SAP" icons to connect to the SAP system.  Note that while these remote desktop sessions appear to be "normal" desktop computers, they are actually running the "Windows Server" operating system and thus may not have a full complement of helper or productivity software.

If you have any questions, or if the instructions above are not working for you, please create a support ticket (https://support.lib.duke.edu) and direct it to the "Desktop Support" queue.
