Errors and Corrections

YBP Shelf-Ready Exceptions and Bounces

What causes an item to be pulled from a YBP shelf-ready shipment?

  • Pull list that comes with shipment (LINK to general DOC), sheets for each pull item are included in the shipment, and should be inserted in each book.
    • Pull items listed and follow included instructions (e.g., Send to original cataloging, Relabel needs new call number, send to OCATS, etc.)
      • For OCATS materials
        • Unlink from holdings and delete old holdings record
        • Delete Yankee CID from bib record
        • Add CATS CID to bib record
        • Insert ALREADY TARGETED flag
        • Place on applicable original cataloging shelves
  • Errors & Issues not on the pull list – relies on processor to find and pull
    • Record/call number has visible errors (bad call number, other issue)
      • Unlink from holdings and delete old holdings record
      • Using ISBN search in OCLC for more complete record
      • Overlay record from OCLC
      • Create Holdings record
    • Missing call numbers when a call number is available in OCLC NOT ON EXCEPTIONS SHEET
      • Unlink & delete old holdings record
      • Correct by overlaying complete OCLC record & create link to holdings
      • Print label as usual (insert instruction for mono labeling)
    • Incomplete call numbers (often missing the date) NOT ON EXCEPTIONS SHEET
      • Unlink & delete old holdings record
      • Correct by overlaying complete OCLC record & create link to holdings
        • If no better call number is available, put CATS CID, insert an ALREADY TARGETED flag, and place on original cataloging shelves
      • Otherwise print label as usual (insert instruction for mono labeling)
  • Pulling "bind books" (books qualified for binding) / damaged materials
    • Look for pamphlets, floppy materials - flag and send to Preservation attention
    • Damaged books (in transit/on site) - flag and send to Preservation
    • Binding damage/issues - place on Bindery Review
  • Green flag from GOBI – too small to target
    • Remove flag, no action

Internal Exceptions and Bounces

Failures of call number used to go back to whoever has a CID in the record (cataloger of record).
However, currently if it can be corrected by person processing the label, can be done by that person.

  • Holdings record not linked
  • Error in item record (bad barcode, etc.)
  • If record does not have acceptable call number (missing date, etc.) it needs original cataloging

Notes
XML manipulation of call numbers is just for serial materials, not monographs – primarily when an equivalency flag is inserted (link to flag doc). Caused when call number doesn't "fit" on the label – labels are 8 digits across and 9 digits down. Primarily a visual re-arrangement (inserting line breaks).

  • No labels
