Alma Cloud Apps

Introduction

Alma supports using “Cloud Apps” which are smaller, additional programs that run with Alma and can extend Alma functionality.

Within Alma, there is a “Cloud App Center” where you can browse and enable apps. Some apps may not work for you depending on your Alma permissions.

Apps to know about

Bulk Scan-In app

The Bulk Scan-In app can be used to upload a list of barcodes and check them all into Alma at once, instead of scanning them into Alma one-by-one.

This app does require more permissions than just working as a circulation operator.

When you first enable the app, you’ll need to configure the app settings and choose the library and circulation desk or department where you are working at. You can also choose whether you want to confirm actions on individual items or print item slips if they are triggered.

App settings are configured for the individual user that is logged in.

The Bulk Scan-in app requires that the user have the specific privilege TABLE_CONFIG_FULL in order to fetch the list of desks used in the app. That privilege is included in many Ex Libris roles.

If a Duke user is reporting an error message like “You are not authorized to perform the requested action”, it’s likely that they do not have a role assigned to them that contains the privilege TABLE_CONFIG_FULL. To verify that, review the Ex Libris roles/privileges excel spreadsheet in the Knowledge Center, and then work with the person’s manager to figure out an appropriate path forward.
