A penetration test, also known as a “pentest” is an authorized simulation of attacks on a computer system, to evaluate the security of the system. Having a penetration test done against your system is required by certain cybersecurity compliance regimes, and can help show due diligence in finding and mitigating security risks. The University Information Security Office (UISO) offers a penetration testing service to system owners within IU covering a range of different types of attacks against a system.
