If you or your department is using a self-managed server or web site/web application for your research project, performing regularly vulnerability scans and mitigating possible vulnerabilities is a great way to reduce the risk of a security compromise on those systems. The University Information Security Office (UISO) offers a vulnerability scanning service which is available to system owners at IU.
