Stephen Toback (he/him), Media Architect & Senior Producer, Academic Media Technologies will provide an overview of AI in academia and academic libraries

Steve has been at Duke for 16 years and his teams are responsible for enterprise media applications like Panopto, Warpwire and Digital Signs as well as the Bryan Center Studios and the Academic Media Production team. He mentioned something about AI last January and now hasn’t stopped talking about it.

The following presenters will talk about AI in Library and Information Science Education:

Alaina Economus (she/they), Slavic Languages Resource Description Intern, Duke University Libraries

Alaina is a second year MSLS student at UNC-Chapel Hill and has served as the Slavic Language Resource Description Intern since August of 2022. Prior to moving to the Triangle, they attended Smith College, earning a B.A. in History and Russian, Eurasian, and Eastern European Studies in 2022.

Zhaneille Green (she/her), E-Access Librarian, Duke University Libraries

Zhaneille graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign this past May with her MS in Library and Information Science. She dabbles in the dark and opaque arts of e-resource access. She also likes making bubble tea, writing fiction, and finding new places with good food.

Adam Hudnut-Beumler (he/him/his), Serials Management Associate, Electronic Resources & Serials Acquisitions Department, Duke University Libraries; UNC SILS MSIS '23

Adam has been with DUL since February of 2021. As a member of the Serials Management Team, he has worked with DUL metadata across many workflows: bindery processing, LSC error reporting, holding records updating, Gov Docs receiving & copy cataloging, etc. Attending UNC-SILS since the fall of 2021, Adam's master’s education has encouraged him to find efficient, small-scale computational solutions to library problems.

Zhuo Pan (he/him), Resident Librarian for Resource Description, Duke University Libraries

Zhuo recently joined the DUL as Resource Description Resident Librarian after receiving his MLIS from the University of Washington. While at UW, he gained experience in linked data as a student employee at the UW Libraries. Prior to graduate school, Zhuo earned his bachelor's degree in library science from Wuhan University in China and worked as a library assistant at Duke Kunshan University.

Ingrid Reiche (she/her/hers), Digital Metadata Librarian, Libraries and Cultural Resources, University of Calgary will speak on AI and Metadata Management

Ingrid Reiche is the Digital Metadata Librarian with Libraries and Cultural Resources at the University of Calgary. Ingrid works largely with metadata management for digital collections and repositories and is hopeful that AI can supplement human metadata creation to help describe the growing digital content in academic libraries. Ingrid enjoys living in Calgary and spending time in the outdoors.
