Questions on Yankee full shelf ready cataloging process:
- Who gets the sets?
- Who gets the added copies?
- What to do when LAW is the location already on Aleph? Is that considered an added location for our book? And if so, who gets the added locations?
Great questions! Shelf Prep staff can meet for training if/when they have books at their desk that fall into any of the categories below.
SETS:
- If the set is complete and the bib record meets copy cataloging guidelines, Shelf Prep staff can catalog it.
- If the set is Incomplete but the bib record meets copy cataloging guidelines, the $e of the CID field gets changed to "CATS", and the book(s) in the incomplete set go on the "CATS" shelf. If the bib record does not meet copy cataloging guidelines, the book(s) in the set (whether some or all of the set) get a CATS CID, and they go on the CATS shelves by language.
ADDED COPIES
- Added copies can be done by Shelf Prep staff.
BOOKS WITH A LAW LOCATION ALREADY
- They are treated like an added location in Aleph, with an extra holding record and item record for the Perkins System location and barcode.
- For statistical purposes, they are treated as a new title for the Perkins System.
- A new CID is added with the cataloger's initials for the Perkins System
- Shelf Prep staff can do these as well.
