Documentation on configuring hours https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Alma/Product_Documentation/010Alma_Online_Help_(English)/050Administration/050Configuring_General_Alma_Functions/020Managing_Institutions_and_Libraries#Configuring_Institution.2FLibrary_Open_Hours

  • The documentation is a bit weird because you’d expect it to be its own page given how much there is to cover, but it’s actually buried in the “Configure the institution and its libraries” page

  • When we began working in Alma, we made the decision on the project level to enable Circulation Desk Managers to edit the calendars for their libraries so it did not have to run through LSIS. If a circulation desk manager is editing the calendar, they would go to Fulfillment > Advanced Tools > General > Opening Hours

  • Fixed due dates for loan rules are in the Opening Hours as a record type of “Event”. See Updating fixed due dates in Alma

  • By default, Ex Libris sets the “valid to” field for a calendar row three years in advance and you cannot change it in the UI. The workaround is to export the hours, change the date in Excel, and then import them back into the calendar.

  • Dates at the “institution” level are inherited by the individual libraries. The circulation managers at those individual libraries cannot update the institution dates - they need to submit tickets to LSIS to have that happen.

  • Based on conversations on the ALMA-L mailing list, it seems to be OK to delete any calendar entries in the past, and so you can do that periodically on the institutional level to help keep things clean.
