Reshelve without transit rules

  • Configuration > Fulfillment > Reshelve without transit rules lets you define scenarios where an item does not go in transit in between two locations when the item is going to be reshelved

    • NOTE - this feature does NOT disable transit states for other workflows, like an item being sent to a work order department. It only disables transit when an item is being sent to reshelving.

  • If items are accidentally put into a work order en masse, and then need to be cleaned up, it’s worth seeing if a temporary “reshelve without transit rule” can be put in place prior to cleanup beginning.

Rules in place (as of October 2024)

  • ADS processing for temporary collections - when an item is going to Duke Authors, New & Noteworthy, or Collection Spotlight, there is usually preparatory work that is done in the Access Services Processing work order. When that work order is marked done, the item then goes to the temp location. Since they are all at Perkins, we don’t want it to go in transit to Perkins. So we turn that off.

  • Items declared long missing - when an item is declared long missing, and moved to the Lost Items work order and the work order is marked as done, that means the item is going to the Lost Items library for record storage. We don’t have the item, it doesn’t need a transit stage, so we turn it off.

  • Resource Sharing > Perkins - when an item is returned at the Resource Sharing Library, and it’s final home is Perkins or GovDocs, it doesn’t need to go into transit. This rule won’t be actually tested until we have our first “Alma-born” lending requests returned from our ReShare partners - it may end up not actually being needed.

  • Bishops House > Lilly – when an item is returned at Bishop’s House that has a permanent location at Lilly, it doesn’t need to be rescanned, so we turn off the transit state.

  • Perkins > Resource Sharing - when an item we borrowed from another ReShare library is returned at Perkins, it goes back to the Resource Sharing library to have the transaction finished and have it shipped back. It doesn’t need to go into transit, so we turn that off.

  • Many libraries > BorrowDirect - when a legacy ReShare item from Aleph is returned at the Perkins desk, it can go straight into an on-the-shelf status, it does not need to go in transit.
