Ask a Librarian Desk circulation desk

To support allowing DUL librarians doing reference over chat to see circulation information, even if they don’t otherwise work desk shifts, we have configured a specific circulation desk in Perkins Library called Ask A Librarian Desk.

The Ask a Librarian Desk has no physical locations attached to it, and is not a primary desk. That means that returning items at the desk is problematic, even if the items belong to Perkins, because they will either be rejected, or go into a transit state and not be returned. We want to prevent this happening, even unintentionally. To do so, we assign librarians that need this desk the role Circulation Desk Operator - Limited, which means they cannot return the items and they cannot override the error message that appears.

If this desk is requested, assign the role profile named “Circulation and Fulfillment Staff - Ask a Librarian Desk”, which includes

  • Circulation Desk Operator - Limited, scope of Perkins Library, desk of Ask a Librarian Desk

  • Printout Queue Operator
