New Materials for the LSC

Materials may be sent to the LSC from ERSA, MonoAcq, and RD. Depending on the workflow, materials may be physically processed at different points in the lifecycle.

New materials for the LSC do not require call number labels or targets.

To be sent to the LSC, new materials should be prepared as follows:

Apply "LSC" stickers in the same place one would apply a spine label

Insert a green "New to LSC" flag.  The LSC labels and flags are available with the supply of flags near the mailboxes.

Apply property stamp, either at top edge or on the first leaf if the text block is not wide enough to be stamped.

These books are not bound, either in-house or commercially. If the book needs repair, use a Preservation flag and route to Conservation.  Make sure to affix an LSC sticker to the item before Conservation treatment, if possible, and to include a "New to LSC" flag in the book.  Remember to change the item process status to PV.

Reminders:

Books designated for LSC are cataloged for Perkins/Bostock or the appropriate branch. The LSC location is assigned when the books are accessioned there.

Books that have already been labelled, property stamped, etc. can be placed directly in the LSC bin, in the mail room.

Alternatively, newly cataloged items or items that have been re-cataloged  can be placed on the book truck designated for new-to-LSC materials.  They must already have an LSC sticker on them when placed on the truck.  The Monograph Acquisitions department oversees sending full trucks to LSC.

Non-book materials going directly to the LSC

DVDs and CDs

The item should come to Shelf Preparation Section with LSC label already attached. Shelf Prep will stamp the item, place it in a small security box, and place it in an LSC mail bin for transporting to the LSC.

LPs
LPs are handled the same as non-book material, and any loose material, such as booklets, will get stamped as well.

Note: For delivery, please consult with Smith Warehouse Shipping & Receiving staff member for instructions on how to package LPs for transporting to LSC.
